Description of the Waka-dono Doll This is a beautiful doll depicting a young nobleman (waka-dono) in a splendid kinran (brocade) haori coat. Without the armor, the doll has a gentle and kind impression. This Waka-dono Doll is a masterpiece by Ippo Ohashi. The doll's head is crafted by Kenzan Kawase, a renowned kashirashi (head sculptor) whose process involves more than 70 steps, all done by hand. The doll's authentic, hand-sewn clothing (hon-kise-jitate) and lifelike head give it a striking presence, almost as if it were a living person. The hairstyle, known as chigo-mage, is a style seen in performances during the Edo period and is also commonly called the "Momotaro-mage" (Momotaro hairstyle).
